“Hi Kim, Hope you are enjoying the summer. Thought I would let you know that I managed paddle boarding on the sea and canal. My balance is definitely better than this time last year and feel generally stronger. Thank you so much for all your help and support. I have been doing exercises by pool and lots of walking. See you next Saturday.”

I have been attending Surrey Hills Rehab since June 2017 under the direction of Kim Wilson, Specialist in Neuro-rehabilitation. I suffered a stroke in 1978 at the age of 34 and, despite great efforts by the NHS at the time and physio for several months after, this has left me with a dropped right foot and very poor gait and mobility. With the passing of the years I was experiencing increasing problems with mobility and poor balance, leading to a number of falls and broken bones. I felt that I needed to take some action to improve the situation and a retired physiotherapist recommended Kim Wilson to me.
On my initial assessment Kim highlighted my swollen right leg, which I had queried shortly before with the local Medical Practice and been prescribed a full length elastic stocking instead of the below the knee one worn previously. On hearing that the swelling did not by now dissipate after a night's sleep, Kim immediately wrote a letter for me to deliver to the duty doctor, who sent me straight to A & E with a suspected DVT and treatment was started at once.
Once I had received the all clear from the Royal Surrey Hospital, I started weekly Neurophysio sessions at Surrey Hills Rehab, followed soon after with a small weekly NeuroPilates group. Lately I have been attending a weekly hour long Falls Prevention exercise class with an exercise programme to do in addition at home (when time permits!) in addition to the NeuroPilates session. Feedback is encouraged and any problems experienced are discussed. All the team have been very professional and experienced and, also importantly, friendly and welcoming. I feel that I have benefited from taking part in these group sessions as I need the support, motivation and encouragement they provide.
Most importantly, Kim Wilson was also key to my being able to obtain - on the third application - a Blue Badge, when my Orange Badge of almost 30 years was discontinued when we moved from West Sussex to Surrey over 12 years ago. The extra-wide car parking space and being a little nearer to the shops, Medical Centre, etc is a great help.
Mr L
Mr L was discharged home from a specialist neurorehabilitation unit requiring 2x 24hour specialist brain injury carers and a specialist postural management programme to manage his extensive contractures following a severe stroke requiring neurosurgery. Surrey Hills Rehab worked intensively with specialist Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Consultant, Orthotists= and Psychologist. He now lives with support from his family and can walk with sticks.

I have Transverse Myelitis, a rare neurological illness, which I contracted four years ago and which has left me with loss of sensation, weakness, stiff muscles and lack of mobility. There is no cure, and the key treatment is physiotherapy.
After 12 months of gradual improvement in my condition (I did exercises every day and kept as active as possible) I hit a plateau. I then had two sessions with Kim who came to my house.
What a difference those 2 sessions made! Kim did a thorough assessment followed by some exercises to stretch and strengthen my muscles and improve my balance. I added her exercises to my repertoire and my balance and mobility improved.
Last year my condition deteriorated following a fall which resulted in a broken neck of femur and an operation. Kim came to my rescue again and her treatment and advice has helped me to regain what I lost following the fall.
I would certainly recommend Kim as a professional, knowledgeable, effective and caring neurological physiotherapist.

We would both like to thank you for the caring and sympathetic attention you gave to Margaret during the consultation it was much appreciated. It is a rather lonely position at times being a sole carer and as I mentioned Margaret was not altogether enthusiastic to my suggestion that we seek further professional help in her rehabilitation so it was great to see you and her get on so well and for her to respond so positively, well done!

Through a mutual friend, I met Kim Wilson just before she opened the Surrey Hills Rehabilitation Studio at Smithbrook Kilns. She has subsequently proved to be amazingly helpful in so many ways.
I have MS because of which I have problems with walking and general mobility. After a careful assessment, Kim has devised a maintenance programme of exercises designed to strengthen my leg muscles. In addition, she recommended a TurboMed device to help with foot drop which has restored my balance and confidence in walking in an extraordinary way. Kim has also arranged for me to attend a weekly class at the Studio run by another physiotherapist and qualified Pilates teacher, to help to strengthenmy core muscles and generally improve my wellbeing. I couldn't be more delighted at the outcome of a chance introduction. Thank you Kim!

Last week I walked and played 9 holes of golf on the par 3 at Hoebridge so over the moon!
All this improvement is totally due to you and all your lovely staff as this time last year I was in a wheelchair.Thank you so much for all your help and good humour it makes the journey so much easier.
I plan playing golf on Monday so will not join the Zoom meeting which might have pushed my computing ability to the limit!
I would like to wish you and all the staff a very Happy Christmas and New Year
Kind regards
Jean with MS
I first attended Surrey Hills Rehab with the idea of doing some exercise February 24.
I was assessed by Kim and she really understood how I was feeling and could see how important exercise was too me.
I started spin Classes in March 2024 and Anna has been helpful on guiding me with these instructed lessons.
She has been understanding of good days and bad days and supportive, encouraging and I can honestly say it is the best day of my week. I am with other people in similar situations with their mobility and they understand how this makes you feel and are supportive and we have a good time laughing as well as exercising.
When I was feeling low and looking for other options of how to improve myself Anna suggested I saw Kim again. This was great advise as I now have improved physically and mentally.
Kim reassessed me and suggested to me avenues to investigate and these have all proved very proactive which is how I am approaching things.
I would actively encourage people to use Surrey Hills Rehab when the needs required their help. They understand, empathise and are very knowledgeable in their area of expertise. They have changed my attitude to life in my new direction with MS.
I am so grateful.
Diana Stroke 45 years ago
I suffered a stroke at the age of 34 (I am now 79). After 6 weeks in hospital and the help of months of physio at the time, I made a partial recovery but I have no muscle activity in my right foot and ankle and over time have lost a range of movement in my ankle joint and use a walking stick. As the years have elapsed, I have increasing problems with my balance and as a result have suffered from increasing falls and broken bones. Six years ago I was recommended to see Kim Wilson by Linda King, a retired Cranleigh physiotherapist. Kim undertook a thorough investigation of my condition and recommended a Saebo Step orthotic and, for several years since, she and her excellent team at Surrey Hills Rehab are continuing to provide weekly exercise and/or neuro pilates classes for me and many other people who have problems caused by strokes, MS and other neurological conditions. We are extremely fortunate to have this health facility in Cranleigh. We are assessed on a regular basis and feel well supported by the welcome assistance of the team at Surrey Hills Rehab.
